BUDAPEST, Hungary — The FIA Formula 2 Championship reaches the final stop before its summer break this weekend as the series heads to the Hungaroring for Round 9 of the 2026 season in support of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The weekend begins with Free Practice on Friday, followed by Qualifying later that afternoon. The Sprint Race is scheduled for Saturday, while Sunday’s 37-lap Feature Race takes place ahead of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. The Hungaroring’s tight, technical layout has traditionally rewarded precision and tire management, making qualifying one of the most important sessions of the weekend.
Drivers to Watch
The championship battle remains one of the closest in junior formula racing.
Rafael Câmara arrives in Hungary with momentum after capturing the Feature Race victory at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend, while Nikola Tsolov continues to establish himself as one of the title favorites after winning five races already this season.
Also expected to contend are Gabriele Minì, Arvid Lindblad, Leonardo Fornaroli, Sebastián Montoya, Joshua Dürksen, Alex Dunne and Richard Verschoor, all of whom have shown race-winning pace during the first half of the season.
What to Watch
Hungary presents a dramatically different challenge from Spa’s high-speed layout.
The 4.381-kilometer (2.722-mile) Hungaroring is one of the most technical circuits on the Formula 2 calendar, with limited overtaking opportunities placing added importance on qualifying, pit strategy and tire degradation. Drivers who can maintain track position while managing Pirelli’s tires over long runs often separate themselves from the field.
Round 9 also represents the final opportunity for drivers and teams to build momentum before Formula 2 pauses for its summer break. Following Hungary, the championship will not return until Monza in early September to begin the final five rounds of the 2026 campaign.
